Aisin EAT8 TCU tuning: your 8-speed, set up the way you drive

Almost nobody tunes the Aisin eight-speed automatic, the EAT8, also listed as AWF8G45. We have decoded its software and proven a custom shift calibration on the road. The factory shift logic is a compromise: it can short-shift, hunt for gears or feel slow in Sport, and because the gearbox has its own control unit, an engine remap changes none of that. We calibrate it by hand from your own file: shift points in every drive mode, faster Sport shifts and how long it holds a gear before changing down.

Tuned to how you want it to shift

Every TCU file is written by the tuner from your own file. Tell us how the car should feel, and anything in this list, or anything else you ask for, is set to match.

  • Custom shift points

Earlier or later changes per gear and drive mode, for relaxed low-rpm cruising or holding gears longer.

  • Faster Sport shifts

Quicker, firmer gear changes in Sport, without touching Normal D. Faster also means firmer.

  • Downshift behaviour

Stays in gear longer before changing down, or kicks down sooner if you prefer.

  • Shift firmness

A softer or sharper clutch handover for each shift.

  • Torque converter lock-up

Earlier, tighter lock-up for a more direct feel, or more slip for smoothness.

  • Manual mode and paddles

Holds a gear closer to the rev limiter before the automatic upshift, and allows quicker paddle downshifts.

  • Quicker 1 to 2 shift

A faster first gear change pulling away.

  • Torque cut and throttle blips

Less torque cut on upshifts and sharper rev-matched downshifts.

  • Torque limits for an engine tune

The gearbox caps the torque the engine may make in every gear. We have found every limit involved; ask us before ordering raised limits for a tuned engine.

  • Developed on a Peugeot 3008 2.0 BlueHDi 180 with a test driver. Sport now shifts noticeably faster, and Normal D reaches the top gears sooner for calmer, quieter cruising. The driver's verdict on the final file: "works just perfectly".
  • The read method depends on the car, so ask us before you book it in and we will tell you which tool reads yours.
  • Not sure your car has the EAT8? Send the read or ask us and we will check it.
  • Tuning can affect the manufacturer's warranty and may need to be declared at a vehicle inspection. Check the rules where the car is registered before using it on public roads.

Ask us about your car.

Tell us the car, the year and what you want from the gearbox, and we will check it and help you with the read.

Before you order

  • Can the Aisin EAT8 (AWF8G45) be tuned?

Yes. We have decoded the gearbox software and proven a custom shift calibration on a Peugeot 3008 2.0 BlueHDi 180. Shift points, Sport shift speed, downshift behaviour, shift firmness, lock-up and manual mode can all be set to how you drive.

  • Which cars have the EAT8?

Most Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel and Vauxhall models with an eight-speed automatic, plus the Toyota Proace and Fiat Doblò and Scudo vans. The table above lists the models. If yours is not there, send the read or ask us.

  • Does an engine remap change how the EAT8 shifts?

No. The gearbox has its own control unit, separate from the engine. When the car shifts and how fast it shifts are set in the gearbox control unit, and a TCU tune is what changes them.

  • Will a TCU tune let the EAT8 hold my tuned engine's torque?

The gearbox limits the torque the engine may make in every gear, and we have found every limit involved. Ask us before you order raised limits for a tuned engine, and tell us what the engine makes.

  • Will the shifts be smoother or faster?

You choose. Faster Sport shifts are also firmer, so tell us how the car should feel and the calibration is set to match. Normal D and Sport are set separately.

  • Can the gearbox be tuned on a car with a standard ECU?

Yes. A TCU tune does not need any change to the engine ECU. Plenty of people only want the gearbox to shift faster, hold gears in manual mode or lose the delays, and that is done entirely in the TCU.

  • Is the TCU file custom or off the shelf?

Custom. Every TCU file is calibrated by hand by the tuner, from your own file, to how you want your transmission to feel. Gearbox work is never automated and never delivered from a library. Say in the order what you want, such as firmer shifts, a comfortable daily or a true manual mode, and the calibration is written around it.

  • How do I order a TCU tune?

Read the TCU with your tool, then submit it through your account like any other file: pick your vehicle, upload the read and choose the gearbox solution. Describe how you want the transmission to behave in the order notes or the job thread, and the tuner will ask if anything is unclear. Creating an account is free, and every account is reviewed before it is activated.

  • What does a TCU tune cost?

The price is on the public price list at remapify.net/prices and on the order form, read live from the catalogue. Jobs are paid for with credits bought by card through Stripe.
