Custom tuning for modified engines

If the engine has a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, runs on E85 or carries any other change beyond a standard stage, there is no ready-made file for it. We calibrate a custom remap by hand on your own read, for the hardware you fitted, and quote the job before any work starts.

Why no ready-made file fits a built engine

Ready-made, database and percentage files all start from the calibration the car left the factory with. That calibration describes the factory turbo, the factory injectors and pump fuel.

Change the turbo, the injectors or the fuel, and it no longer describes the engine. Raising its maps by a percentage only scales a calibration that is already wrong for the hardware. There is nothing to copy: the file has to be calibrated for what is fitted.

Percentage tunes vs calibrated remaps

What we calibrate for your hardware

  • Bigger or hybrid turbo: boost targets and turbo control set for the turbo you fitted, for each engine speed and for altitude.
  • Bigger injectors: injector data for the injectors you fitted, so the engine gets the fuel the ECU asks for.
  • E85: fuel and ignition calibrated for the fuel in the tank.
  • Anything else beyond a standard stage: tell us what is fitted and the calibration is written for it.
  • Limiters and protections are reset for the new hardware and stay active.

How a custom job works

  • Read the ECU with your master tool, upload the read and choose Stage 3 / Custom in the order form.
  • List the hardware in the order notes: turbo, injectors, fuel, fuel pump, intercooler and anything else that has changed.
  • We quote the job. Nothing is charged until you accept the quote.
  • Once you accept, the tuner calibrates the file on your read and it comes back to your account. Questions go in the job thread, straight to the tuner.
  • Flash it, take a datalog and send it with the fault codes in the job thread. Changes from your logs are made at no extra cost within 30 days of delivery.

Why a custom file costs more than a ready-made one

A ready-made file is cheap because it is the same file sold many times. A calibration for your build is made once, for one engine, on your read, and it cannot be sold to anyone else.

Most of the work is reading your hardware list and your logs. And on a built engine the file is the smallest cost of the build, and the part that decides how the rest of it holds up.

Who it is for

Workshops building engines for their customers, tuners who want a second pair of hands on a big job, and owners whose car carries a build. Every account is reviewed before it is activated.

Before you order

  • Can you tune a car with a bigger turbo?

Yes. The boost targets and turbo control are calibrated for the turbo you fitted, for each engine speed and for altitude. Tell us the turbo in the order notes when you order Stage 3 / Custom.

  • Do you tune for E85?

Yes. Fuel and ignition are calibrated for E85. E85 needs considerably more fuel than petrol, so tell us the injectors and fuel pump as well: they have to be able to supply it.

  • Why does a custom tune cost more than a ready-made file?

Because it is made once, for one engine. A ready-made file is the same file sold many times. A custom calibration is written by the tuner on your read, for your hardware, and refined from your logs.

  • How much does a custom tune cost?

It is quoted per job from the hardware you list, and nothing is charged until you accept the quote.

  • Do I need to be a business?

No. Workshops, tuners and private owners can all open an account. Every account is reviewed before it is activated.
